Mummy, Come Back To Daddy: The Ex-wife's Revenge

Chapter One

Inside the luxurious Lockwood Villa, Lily sat at the dining table, facing the vast delicacies she prepared.

It hadn’t been long since she returned from her grandfather’s burial, yet, she suppressed the gloom and had to cook something… At least, for Adrian. She didn’t have any desire to eat.

Her eyes strayed to the wall clock and she gently tapped her fingers on the dining table.

At the cemetery, Adrian had suddenly disappeared and she had to return home alone. Not knowing when he would be back, Lily feared that the food would turn cold.

She stood up to check each dish out to make sure nothing was out of place, then footsteps came from the door.

Adrian entered the room with his usual deadpan expression. He rarely smiled, and whenever he did, it was never for her. So Lily didn’t think much about the foreboding atmosphere around him as she was used to it.

She walked forward and tried to help him out of his coat, putting on a smile. “Hey, Honey… I thought you would stay back and offer your condolences to the family. Did something important come up at work? Was that why you left-”

“Take this.” His words stopped her from speaking further and he pushed some papers into her hands. “We are getting a divorce. Sign it. Now.”

“Huh?” Lily was taken aback by his words. She stared at the papers with furrowed brows, her confusion not allowing her to comprehend the words written on them. “Honey, are you alright?” She looked at him.

“Do I look sick to you?” The man stared at her expressionlessly.

Lily shook her head and laughed softly. “Y-You must be tired, Honey.” She started pulling him toward the couch. “Please have a seat. I’ll get you some water. See, I prepared your favorite dish… and-”

“Lily!” The man snapped at her. “Stop acting dumb. We are getting a divorce.”

Lily flinched from his hard tone. Still in denial, she didn’t want to believe he meant it. “You must be shocked by Grandpa’s death. Honey, I’m so sorry that we had to lose Grandpa. Could you relax and think things through? We’re not getting a divorce, this is only a prank, right?”

After all, Adrian was very close to her grandfather so Lily could understand that the man’s death must have thrown him into a state of confusion.

Adrian didn’t know what he was doing. Despite him not treating her so nicely, she never thought he would bring up the word ‘Divorce’.

The more she acted dumb, the angrier the man became. He snatched the papers from her hands and shoved them into her face, throwing her off-guard.

“Can’t you read!? We are getting a divorce, Lily. Pack your things and leave. And don’t even expect compensation from me!”

Lily was forced to go through the contents of the papers one more time. Surprisingly, he had already put his signature on it.

Her mind went blank for a few seconds before she looked up at him. They had been married for a year and Lily did her best every day to please him, although Adrian didn’t like her much.

“W-Why,” She choked out. “Did I do anything wrong?”

Adrian only scoffed in return before he glared at her. “You’re still acting dumb, huh? What were you thinking before, that I will spend the rest of my life with you?”

“B-But I love you, Adrian-”

“And I don’t.” He cut her off. “If it wasn’t for your grandfather, I wouldn’t have agreed to marry you. Who doesn’t know that you intentionally drugged me that night? Otherwise, why would I take the initiative to touch someone as filthy as you?”

His harsh words pricked at her heart and Lily could feel wet tears against her cheek. “I have told you several times that I didn’t do it. We were both victims, Adrian… h-how could you pin the blame on me?” She sniffled.

Despite growing up loving each other, their relationship hit rock bottom due to what happened before his graduation. From that time, the man’s attitude changed towards her, and he never wanted to see her again.

But as fate would have it, they bumped into each other on her grandfather’s birthday last year.

That night, Lily didn’t know what happened but she found herself on the same bed with him the next morning.

Her family caught wind of it, and her grandfather used that opportunity to force them into a marriage, fearing for the family’s reputation.

While Lily saw that as a chance to win Adrian’s heart back because she never stopped loving him, Adrian was just waiting for her sick grandfather to die so he could divorce her.

Every day he spent with her was torture. It enraged him that he always had to see the face of the woman who shattered his dreams.

If her grandfather hadn’t been tight friends with his late grandfather, he would never have agreed to marry her.

“Sign it!” He glowered down at her. “Make sure you pack your things and leave before I return.”

“Adrian, wait.” Lily grabbed his leg as he was about to walk out. She was sitting on the floor and her vision was blurred with tears.

“P-Please, you can’t do this to me... We- we are not getting a divorce.”

“And what made you think so?” He stared at her with contempt. “Put a halt to your tantrum before I do something you’ll regret. Sign the divorce and quietly leave. My lawyer will come later to get the papers.”

With that said, he shook her hands off by kicking his leg. Then he strode out.

Lily was left on the floor, her face covered with tears. She read through the divorce agreement, her heart sinking more as each word appeared in her vision.

Suddenly, a slight pain gripped her stomach and she felt a bit dizzy.

Lily ignored the pain and focused her attention on the papers. No matter how hard she tried, it seemed Adrian would never forgive her for what happened seven years ago before his graduation.

He even had the heart to divorce her just after her grandfather’s burial. It meant he always had it in mind all this time, while she did her best every day, tending to his needs, swallowing endless insults from his relatives, being looked down upon by everyone… with the only hope that he would be nice to her someday.

Chapter Two

Not willing to give up on their marriage yet, Lily thought it better not to sign the divorce papers.

Adrian hated her now… It didn’t mean he wouldn’t like her later. How could she easily leave a man she had grown up to love? For many years, he was the only man in her heart.

His proposing a divorce was her worst nightmare. Even when her grandfather died, she wasn’t as devastated as this.

She left home before his lawyer could arrive and compel her to sign the papers. Following him to the company, Lily hoped she would be able to persuade him.

To her shock, when she arrived at his office, she heard voices coming from the office.

“Now that you have divorced that bitch, Sweetheart, when can you announce our relationship to the world?”

The coquettish voice sounded oddly familiar and Lily could not believe her ears. Holding her bag close to her chest, she pressed her ear to the door to make sure she hadn’t heard wrong.

“Sweetheart.” The voice continued. “Why aren’t you speaking? I hope you’re not regretting what you did. Lily doesn’t deserve a place in your heart. Remember what she did seven years ago.”

“What do you want, Savannah.” Adrian sounded tired.

“I have done so many things for you. And unlike Lily, our father likes me the most. If you marry me soon, our family won’t cut ties. After all, aren’t we in a relationship already?”

Lily couldn’t take the heartache anymore. After recovering from disbelief, she felt anger surge through her and she pushed the door open.

The people inside the room were startled, and her step-sister’s eyes widened on seeing her.

“Y-You, Lily-”

“Adrian…” Lily ignored Savannah and faced the man. “What was that supposed to mean? You and Savannah…” The tears she thought had long dried up came rolling down.

Apart from devastation, Lily felt nothing but hurt.

“Why did you follow me here?” The man narrowed his eyes and stood up from the couch. “Are you still pretending to be dumb, Lily? Didn’t I tell you to sign those papers?”

“I need an explanation.”

“For what.”

“You and Savannah-”

“What more explanation do you need, Big Sis?” Savannah left the couch’s handle and walked forward, smiling. “I am sure you have been eavesdropping on us. That’s right. Adrian and I are in a relationship.”

She stood beside the man and wrapped her hands around his arm. “After destroying his dreams, do you think Adrian will ever forgive you? If it hadn’t been for me, that night Adrian would have also burnt in that fire together with his projects. Aren’t you shameless for clinging onto him?”

Savannah never really liked her. Growing up, they hadn’t been on good terms. And Lily was aware of her step-sister’s animosity towards her while she and Adrian dated.

Although Savannah openly displayed her jealousy, Adrian never paid her attention. So she was more than shocked that the two had been cheating behind her back.

“Adrian.” Lily looked at him. “Even if you don’t like me, don’t you think it is wrong to see another woman while we’re married?”

“Lily, stop making a scene. Get out!” The man glared at her.

“You really don’t value our marriage, do you?”

“Did you just realize it?” He chuckled darkly and held Savannah’s waist. “Is this enough evidence for you to sign the divorce?”

Lily shook her head and sniffed back her tears. While she did her best to protect their marriage, it seemed this man was all out to destroy her.

Everyone knew how Savannah hated her. In the past, he had constantly protected her from her step-sister’s schemes.

If he could even hook up with her step-sister in order to spite her, what use was her undying love for him?

“What happened seven years ago was an accident… You still blame me for destroying your dreams of becoming an aerospace engineer. Adrian, it wasn’t intentional…”

“Just sign the divorce.” Adrian looked away. “Don’t make me call the security.”

“Lily, just give up already.” Savannah snickered. “Your game of pretense will never work. Grandpa is no longer around to protect you. And you know Dad can’t even stand you. How about you sign the divorce and go back to your filthy mother?”

“Stay out of this, Savannah.” Lily didn’t want to give her the satisfaction that she had won. “You should be ashamed of even showing your face.”

“Don’t you sound funny, Big Sis? Why should I be ashamed when I have painstakingly taken great care of your husband when you couldn’t?”

*PAK*

Lily shut her up with a slap. Still, Savannah didn’t wipe off her smile.

She looked at Adrian and batted her lashes, putting on a pitiful look. “Sweetheart, isn’t she gutsy? She could even slap me in your presence.”

“And I will repeat it-”

“No, you won’t.” Adrian caught her hand before she could send another slap across the girl’s face. “She is right, Lily… You truly are gutsy.”

“Adrian-”

*PAK*

The man did not only slap her. He also pushed her away, making her back hit the wall. Lily stared at him in disbelief, her eyes clouding with tears.

“Sign the divorce while I’m being lenient, Lily. You won’t like what I will do next, believe me.”

Lily touched her cheek, feeling the burning pain from it. For the first time in her life, Adrian had slapped her.

The man looked dead serious about divorcing her.

Thinking that she could still save their marriage, what a fool she was. If even Savannah could wriggle her way into his heart, didn’t it mean that their relationship was doomed for good?

Adrian would never love her again. It was time to face the reality. The reality she had been running away from despite being constantly mistreated by him.

It was high time she realized that he was no longer the same man she fell for. The man she fell in love with would never cheat on her with her step-sister.

Chapter Three

Even with the reality staring right at her, Lily couldn’t suppress the hurt in her heart.

Adrian had literally forced her to sign those papers, then he asked the security to drag her out and throw her out of the company.

When she arrived home, her things were moved outside by the house Stewardess who was following the man’s order.

“You have suffered enough, Young Miss. Maybe your divorce is the best solution,” The middle-aged woman advised.

She had seen with her own eyes how the girl suffered every day, even in the hands of the Young Master’s family.

At one point, the Stewardess had thought this girl was a masochist. But then, love had the power to do unimaginable things to people. Hopefully, this would open her eyes and set her heart free.

Lily shook her head, wiping her tears. This reality was too hard to handle. And she selfishly wished her grandfather would suddenly come back to life, and maybe things could be reversed.

She wouldn’t witness Adrian’s betrayal, and she would keep hoping he would love her someday. Because the betrayal hurt more than his rejection. Of all people, why would he cheat on her with her step-sister?

Lily left the Villa, her eyes never dried up from the tears. While inside the taxi which was taking her home, her phone rang and she answered it.

“You ungrateful child. So you have managed to destroy your marriage.” Her father’s spiteful voice came from the other end. “Why am I not surprised? I have seen this coming.”

“Well isn’t it her fault? Now that the old man is no longer alive, who else is going to indulge her wayward ways? Fortunately, your husband will marry your step-sister. Otherwise, it would be a big misfortune to this family to lose such an affluent son-in-law,” Came her step-mother’s voice.

As if to add more insult to injury, the couple kept bashing her with horrible words.

“And don’t think about stepping foot into my house!” Her father took the phone. “If I see even your shadow near the mansion, I will break your limbs and throw you to the beasts.”

Mr. Williams had thought his useless daughter would at least keep her husband. Having the richest heir in the city as a son-in-law was the only thing every affluent family in the city would ever wish for.

He had watched the children grow up together and had seen how that boy doted on his daughter.

That was the reason why Mr. Williams didn’t throw her out with her mother, knowing that someday the two would end up together.

But who would have thought that his stupid daughter would blow up her chance? If it hadn’t been for the old man, she wouldn’t have gotten to marry that boy.

Luckily, he still had hope. Although Savannah wasn’t his biological daughter, there wouldn’t be any difference as long as she married the boy.

“You heard your father, right? Don’t think about stepping foot into the mansion. Since the old man is no longer alive, you might as well rely on your poor mother.”

It was surprising how people could change faces easily. They had constantly warned her not to go near her mother in the past.

Now that she wasn’t of any use to them any longer, they, in fact, urged her to go to the woman.

Lily wiped her tears and hung up before they could rain more insults on her. She wasn’t planning to go to the mansion anyway.

Although they had warned her to stay away from her mother, she wasn’t a fool to listen to them.

They weren’t aware, but she had secretly visited the woman while growing up. Up till now, she never stopped being in touch with her mother.

Due to her devastation, she forgot to give her mother a call that she was coming. And the woman was shocked when she saw Lily arrive with her luggage.

“Oh, Dear… Are you alright?” Her mother stared at her worriedly, giving the luggage a confused look.

Lily shook her head then threw her arms around the woman, sobbing loudly.

Inside the small apartment, the walls shook with her sobs. Her mother sighed heavily, gently patting her back.

She had already guessed what must have happened. Still, she was baffled when her daughter narrated the whole incident.

When she heard about the old man’s death, she knew it was only a matter of time before those people turned against her daughter.

The only thing that surprised her was that even that boy would do such a thing to her daughter.

“Who in this world divorces someone without compensation? Just how cruel are those people?” Her mother lamented.

After calming her daughter, she sat her on the couch and brought her a glass of water. “Lily, this isn’t right. He can’t just divorce you without offering you anything. We must take this case to the court.”

“Mum, let it be.” Lily took a sip from the glass and rubbed her aching forehead. “Even if he offered me compensation, It’s not like I would take it. What he and Savannah did to me…”

She trailed off, fearing the heartache that came with remembering.

“But still…” Her mother shook her head. “That boy is rich enough that even sparing billions wouldn’t make a ripple in his account. Does he hate you this much to not give you anything?”

“Mum-”

“No, I have to see him.” The woman’s temper acted up and she rose to her feet. “Your father was greedy enough to snatch your inheritance. If your husband can’t spare you any money, how are you going to survive?”

When her grandfather’s will came out, surprisingly, her name didn’t reflect on it. Lily knew she could do nothing about it.

As her grandfather was severely sick, she didn’t want to disturb him with such matters. Because she knew well that her father had tampered with the will. Adrian was well-off, and she didn’t care about the money.

The woman thought it was unfair to her daughter. If she couldn’t get her grandfather’s inheritance, at least, she should get a divorce compensation from her husband.

“Mum.” Lily staggered to her feet, trying to stop the enraged woman. “Please don’t go. I don’t want them to hurt you.”

Her headache was increasing and she was starting to feel dizzy.

“How can I watch them bully you unjustly? Lily, I don’t have any money, but I can find justice for you-”

The woman had not finished speaking, and she watched as the girl lost her footing and fell on the floor.

Before she could register it, her daughter had fainted.

Chapter Four

Lily opened her eyes to find herself on a hospital bed. The white ceiling loomed above and the smell of disinfectants hit her nose.

Feeling a slight tug in her right hand, she looked sideways and stared at her mother.

“Thank goodness you’re awake.” The woman sighed in relief, giving her a worried look. “Lily, where do you feel pain? Let me call the doctor.”

She touched her forehead before standing up.

As her mother was about to leave the ward, Lily held her back. Her brows creased into a frown and she stared at the IV drip attached to her other hand.

“What is wrong with me, Mum?”

Lily could remember fainting, but she couldn’t remember being sick. Why was she brought to a hospital?

The woman had no idea about what was wrong with the girl. She was also surprised when she brought her here and the nurses carried out several tests on her. Then they gave her several shots before attaching her to an IV drip.

Was her daughter sick?

She opened her mouth and wanted to voice out her confusion. Coincidentally, the doctor walked into the ward with a nurse.

“I can see you are finally awake.” The doctor smiled at Lily. “Tell me, Miss. Where do you feel pain?”

Lily tried to sit up and her mother helped her. She shook her head at the doctor’s question and answered, “I don’t feel any pain.” She gave the IV drip a confused look. “Doctor, am I sick?”

“You are pregnant.”

The doctor's words were like bombshells to her ears. Her jaw dropped and the same confusion was registered on her mother’s face.

“W-What did you say?” Lily blinked.

Now, it was the doctor’s turn to be confused. “Miss, Don’t tell me you are not aware that you are pregnant,” He said.

Because the middle-aged man was the jovial type, he answered her first question with the phrase ‘You are pregnant’ because that was the only possible answer he could provide.

Normally, some pregnant women tend to have fainting episodes, so he believed her question was voiced out of her dazed state.

“What do you mean by she’s pregnant?” Lily’s mother broke out of her shock. “Doctor, are you playing a prank on us?”

“Actually… no.” The doctor put on a serious look. “Your daughter is, in fact, eight weeks pregnant. Weren’t you aware?”

The doctor was baffled that these women were oblivious, taking in their shocked expressions.

“Hehe, in that case, I should congratulate you.” He went on. “Miss, after carrying out an HCG test, it also turned out you might be carrying two fetuses.”

The more the doctor spoke, the more dread Lily felt in her heart.

Pregnant?

She was pregnant?

She touched her stomach, then she touched her chest to feel her rapid heartbeat. How could she be pregnant?

Eight weeks was approximately two months. She had been pregnant for two months and she wasn’t even aware.

Adrian rarely touched her, however, she could recall that exactly two months ago, the man had returned home heavily intoxicated.

How was it possible that she was pregnant? They had been married for a year now and she never even miscarried.

“Miss.” The doctor pulled her attention. He didn’t allow her to recover from the shock before throwing another bombshell at her.

“If you hadn’t arrived earlier, there was a high chance that your health could be thrown into more danger. Your blood pressure is pretty high and your pregnancy will have complications. So, I advise you to watch over your health and don’t do things that will impact the babies.”

“What kind of complications?” Her mother frowned. “My daughter doesn’t have any underlying health condition, Doctor.”

“Well it seems your daughter has been under a lot of stress,” The doctor replied. “Which put her health at more risk. The fetuses’ survival is not certain, what I fear most for is her life.”

“Please speak a language I can understand. What do you mean by that?” The woman looked anxious. “Is my daughter safe or not?”

The doctor didn’t intend to speak in puzzles, but this girl’s condition was quite complicated.

“Miss.” He looked at Lily. “Unless you receive strict medical supervision, I can’t guarantee that both you and the fetuses will survive. I will be straightforward. If it had been one fetus, the problem wouldn’t be much. But you might be carrying two.”

Lily had a hard time digesting the doctor’s words even after he left. She spaced out, her hand tightly holding her stomach.

“If this is a dream, I want to wake up. What more calamity could befall us? How can you be pregnant for that cruel man, Lily?”

Her mother’s lamenting brought Lily back to the present.

“Strict medical supervision means we have to spend a lot of money. It wasn’t enough that he threw you out, now you are pregnant with his babies!”

“Mum.” Lily sighed and held her mother’s hand. But she was lost at what to say. How could she calm the woman when her own nerves were wrecking inside?

“I must see that man.” Her mother stood up. “Now that you are pregnant with his babies, he has to come and take responsibility. He should be responsible for landing you into this state.”

“No. Mum, wait.” Lily pulled her back and shook her head. At the mention of Adrian, her senses were on high alert and she held her stomach protectively.

“We can’t let him know.”

“Huh?”

“Please don’t go to him. Don’t tell Adrian about this,” Lily added.

The man hated her to the core. He’d definitely not want to have anything to do with her babies.

Lily had made up her mind to stay away from him. How could she expose her babies to the same rejection Adrian had given her?

“Don’t go, Mum.” She sighed. “A- And don’t worry about me. I think I’ll be fine.”

“We’re not even sure if you will survive, Lily.” The woman was supposed to feel happy for her daughter’s pregnancy, but not at the cost that her daughter’s life was in danger.

“If you don’t want me to go to him, our only solution is to take these babies out.”

“Mum! No!” Lily gasped and held her stomach protectively. “I- I want to keep my babies,” she looked down and murmured.
