Chapter 1 Abandoned By The World
"Mylah Tinsley! Are you dating them to piss me off? That's what you want, huh?" " Lyle composed himself and grabbed her arms, outraged.
Mylah put on a cold smile and warned, "Let go, or I'll call the police, Mr. Gatlin." She loved the man, but the man buried her love alive seven years ago. Now, she could only feel hatred towards him.
--------------------------------
It was a dark day.
When Mylah Gatlin wrapped her naked body in the blanket, a man threw the divorce agreement on her face.
Her heart stopped beating when Mylah saw the words on the paper.
Subconsciously, she clutched the blanket on her tightly.
Lyle Gatlin, the sullen man who stood by the bed, put his clothes on. He didn't bother to look at her and felt disgusted, for he actually had sex with her the night before.
"Lyle, I didn't put anything in your drink. I didn't plan this." Mylah sounded tough, but there were actually tears in her eyes when she defended herself.
"I don't care if you planned this. You already got what you want." Lyle put on his suit jacket and squinted at her. "But I'm still divorcing you. What happened last night can't help you nor change anything."
Mylah knew it very well.
Lyle only married her and lived with her for two years because of the engagement made by their parents.
During the two years, they were a loving couple in public, but when there were just the two of them, Mylah was like a total stranger to him.
Mylah endured his emotional abuse because she had to stay with the Gatlin family. Her mother passed away. She couldn't go back to her own family, the Tinsley family. Mylah thought she would be fine even though Lyle didn't love her.
She thought she would spend the rest of her life like that, living with a man who couldn't even treat his legal wife properly.
But the woman Lyle loved returned.
And what was brought to her were the divorce agreement and the title of Ms. Laughingstock.
Lyle maintained a poker face and warned. "You'd better be smart and sign the paper. Also, get out of my house before dawn. If you plan to play another of your stupid tricks, I swear you will regret it."
After that, he left without any hesitation.
Mylah could only sign it. She packed up her stuff and was kicked out.
She returned to her family in one hour.
Yet Mylah was kept out. And her suitcase was thrown away like it was some piece of garbage.
Karen Tinsley, Mylah's stepmother, stood at the door with her arms folded. She patronized Mylah, who was collecting her scattered clothes, and quipped, "Mylah, I'm not being mean, but you did bring shame to the family. Now everyone in Kentoville knows that Lyle Gatlin dumped you. Your dad is so pissed. He is hospitalized because of you."
Mylah sprang to her feet and asked, "Hospitalized? Which hospital is he in?"
"Don't bother. He doesn't want to see you. We all thought you could maintain your title of Mrs. Gatlin and brought honor to the family, but look what we got. Ugh, you're not even a good tool," Karen continued.
Mylah bit her lip, trying to swallow all the humiliation.
"They all know Lyle left you for another woman. See? He likes women, but why is it not you? You know, it's actually very easy to keep a man. Just give birth to his baby. Your marriage lasted for two years. But you haven't been pregnant yet. To be honest, I would do the same if I were him."
Actually, Mylah wanted a baby.
Yet it was impossible for her since Lyle didn't want her baby or her.
Mylah did her best to remain calm in the face of those mean and abusive words. Then, she carried her suitcase and tried again to return to her home.
Chapter 2 Pregnancy
But Karen wouldn't let Mylah. She pushed Mylah away with much force and cursed, "Did you not hear me or what? Don't act like an indecent brat."
"I live here!" Mylah refuted.
Karen laughed out. "Not anymore. Your father told me to keep you out if you were kicked out from the Gatlin family. You're expelled now."
"No way." Mylah couldn't believe it. "My mother left this house to me. You can't shut me out!"
Karen gloated at Mylah and said, "Come on. I wouldn't go back to my father if my husband dumped me for a mistress. Actually, I would bury myself alive for I was such a disgrace to my family. Now, be a good girl and scram. Your father will be grateful if you are willing to do this favor for him."
"I want to see him!"
Slap!
Just after Mylah made her request, Karen slapped her in the face.
"Still see yourself as the domineering lady, huh? Wake up, or I'll help you. Someone, shut our door, and keep the jinx out. Ugh, I'll have to wash my hand later."
Karen rolled her eyes and entered the house.
Pain in the face was nothing. Mylah tried to break in, but the two guards did their job well.
She was pushed roughly away from the door.
And then, they shut the door.
She repeatedly thwacked the door and yelled, "Let me in! I live here! You can't shut me out! I want to talk to my dad! Let me in!"
Yelling didn't help. Mylah then took out her phone and called her father, yet she then realized that her father had blacklisted her.
She collapsed to the ground.
Lyle kicked her out, and her family officially abandoned her.
'Why?!
'What have I done wrong?!
'Why do you all treat me like this?!'
Two months later, Mylah went to the hospital.
She couldn't get a chance to meet with her father and stayed in the cheapest motel during these two months. Every morning when she woke up, she would see Lyle on TV. And that woman was always with him.
Sometimes, there would be sarcasm in her about her being a deserted lady.
One morning, Mylah felt sick and decided to find out what was wrong with her body.
"Pregnant? Me? How is that possible?!" Mylah grabbed the test report in one hand and felt her abdomen with the other hand.
The doctor gave more advices since she looked sore. "Yeah, you will have twins. I think you should come again with your husband to have a full medical workup. We have to know if you have any other problem besides malnutrition."
"Thank you." Mylah left in a hurry.
Meanwhile, a woman walked in quietly.
Mylah walked out of the hospital in a trance. She put her hand on the abdomen and shed tears.
"Why? Why do you come to me at this moment?"
She then murmured in a completely different tone, "What if I tell this to your father? Do you think he will get me back for your sake? Maybe he will allow me to keep you?"
Mylah found herself ridiculous.
She could picture the scene, in which she would show the test report to Lyle, and the man would order her to get rid of the babies.
Thinking of that, she felt a twitch in her womb.
Mylah decided that she would never expose her pregnancy to Lyle.
She had nothing left in the world. The twins were her blessings and hopes.
Mylah quickly had a plan.
"We will leave here now. I promise I will raise you two well."
Mylah, who was actually in the middle of the road, suddenly heard vroom from the motorbike.
For some reason, she froze and dazedly watched.
Bam.
She was knocked down.
Before she passed out, her only worry went to the babies.
Chapter 3 Seven Years Later
Seven years passed quickly.
Mylah walked out of the airport with her luggage. Just after she turned on her phone, it rang. She answered the call and heard a mellow male voice. "Surra, have you arrived Kentoville?"
"Yeah."
"A girl from Seidro Institute will pick you up. People all know you're joining them. I believe there are plenty of companies of the same kind who want you. You wanna select one, or I select one for you?"
A familiar face flashed in Mylah's mind. Her eyes turned cold for a second. "Leif, I can handle this myself."
The man over the phone smiled and replied, "Yeah, I believe you can. Be safe, OK? Call me if anything happens."
She hung up the phone and saw a board with the name Surra on it. Mylah blinked.
It was a young girl holding that board.
Mylah looked around and kept a low profile as she walked to the young girl. She took the board down and put on a false smile, "Hi."
"Ms. Surra?!" the girl recognized Mylah and excitedly asked.
"Yeah." Mylah showed the young girl her ID.
"Welcome to Kentoville." The girl grabbed Mylah's hand. She was so overjoyed because Mylah was her idol. "My name is Alora Ellison. You can call me Alora."
"Nice to meet you, Alora. Let's go."
At the same time when Mylah got in the car, Lyle walked out of the airport. Somehow, he thought he had seen a familiar figure.
Lyle paused and gazed at the car in front of him.
'What is wrong with me?
'Why would I think of her for no reason?' He thought.
Seven years ago, he was shocked and depressed for a moment when he received the message that Mylah had died in a car accident. Over the years, he started to think of her more and more frequently.
Sometimes, he even had illusions.
"Mr. Gatlin, Ms. Bexley made a reservation for your dinner. Should I cancel the rest of your evening?"
"Mm."
In the car, Alora introduced the city to Mylah like a happy raccoon.
Yet Mylah didn't feel as excited as Alora. She grew up and lived in the city for over 20 years. Mylah knew the city better than anyone else.
However, seven years passed. The city was not like it used to be.
Seven years ago, she heard the wrecker's voice before she passed out. The man made a call and asked for his pay, and he addressed the person over the phone as Mr. Gatlin.
When Mylah heard it, she felt herself dead inside.
She didn't expect Lyle to be the one who wanted her dead. Mylah signed the agreement as he asked, but he just hated her so much that he wanted her dead.
Back then, when Mylah thought she and her babies would die, Vance Coleman, her mentor, came from abroad and saved her. Vance took her out of the country in secret. Otherwise, she would have been dead.
Now seven years later, she was back to take revenge on Lyle Gatlin.
Mylah drove the hatred in her eyes away and said, "Alora, there's a place I need to visit."
The place referred to where the Tinsleys lived.
Mylah stood at the door and rang the bell.
There lived her family, but she was like a strange visitor.
"Ms. Tinsley?! You're back!" The servant who opened the door was surprised to see Mylah.
"Yeah," Mylah plainly answered, "Where's my father?"
"In the study. I'll tell him that you're back."
"Don't bother. I'll tell him myself." Mylah walked in and went upstairs, ignoring the people who sat in the living room.
Chapter 4 Better Than Lyle Gatlin
Mylah went upstairs.
Karen and her daughter Abril Tinsley in the living room watched each other.
Abril scolded loudly, "Who was that?! Who said you could allow strangers to get in like that? "
The servant explained, "But Ms. Abril Tinsley, that was Ms. Tinsley."
Karen bounced up from the sofa. "What did you just say? Mylah? Mylah Tinsley?! She's already back?!"
Mylah didn't knock.
Instead, she boldly pushed the door open. Ryker Tinsley was to lose his temper, but he then realized it was Mylah, who he had been waiting for. He put on a phony smile and hung up his phone.
"Oh, my dear girl, you're back. You should have told me so that I could pick you up at the airport. Wait here. I'll tell the cook to make something you like for you."
Mylah leisurely sat on the sofa and asked, "Don't bother. I'm not important enough to have your servant cook for me. Just tell me why you want me back."
The phony smile on Ryker's face froze. He hadn't seen Mylah for seven years, and the girl had changed a lot. Even her tone sounded so annoying. Ryker would have slapped her if it weren't for the fact that he could sell her.
He then spoke like a loving father, "I'm so glad that you're still alive. You know, my only hope for you is to watch you marry a good man."
In Mylah's eyes, Ryker saying those words was the most hypocritical man in the world.
Seven years ago, everyone believed that Mylah was dead.
Several months ago, she pulled some strings and leaked the news to Ryker that she was still alive. After that, he kept calling and "caring about" her. And days ago, he told Mylah that he wanted her back.
Mylah knew Ryker was planning something again.
But this time, she wouldn't be the one who suffered.
"I dreamed of your mother a lot. She blamed me for not taking good care of you. Since you're alive, I really want to entrust you to a really nice man. And I swear this time, the man will be even better than Lyle Gatlin," Ryker said with a smile.
Yet his greedy eyes sold him out.
"Even better than Lyle Gatlin?"
"Yeah, a million times better than him."
Mylah snickered and replied, "Actually, my schedule is very tight. Maybe I can meet with the guy tonight. What do you say?"
Ryker was overjoyed in the heart. He thought the thing wouldn't go that smoothly, but it actually did. He firmly believed that Mylah lived a miserable life abroad.
Ryker prayed that nothing would go wrong again.
"Good! I'll call... him now!"
Mylah stood up and tried to leave with the excuse that her luggage was in the hotel. Yet Abril got in Mylah's way when Mylah went downstairs.
"Mylah, we weren't expecting you to come back alive." Abril looked Mylah up and down, her eyes full of jealousy.
Seven years passed, and Mylah got even more stunning.
Mylah sneered. "Yeah, but I have to come back. I'm not letting you take over my property."
Abril was pissed about the property thing, but she quickly composed herself and retorted cynically, "Just an abandoned woman now but is still talking in your rich b tone, huh? Good for you."
Mylah slightly frowned and smacked Abril.
"I might be an abandoned woman, and I may be a rich b. But the b you're talking about is your older sister, know the fact. What is wrong with you and your mother? Didn't she teach you anything about manners?"
Chapter 5 Dating Party
Abril felt a burning pain on her cheek. She couldn't believe what had just happened.
"Did you just... slap me?!"
"Yes, hope you will remember this lesson. Cuz if you don't, I don't mind slapping you again," Mylah stressed her every word, which is full of anger and malevolence
Then, she left there.
At Seidro Institute,
Mylah's arrival drew everyone's attention.
When she was abroad, she created countless scientific and technological achievements with the identity Surra and became a researcher sought after by listed technology companies.
Mylah chose to join them because Vance told her to and because of something personal.
"Ms. Surra, we finally meet each other. I'm August Bach, the deputy dean of Seidro Institute. Welcome on board."
"Thank you."
Then, August put the file he prepared on the table. "Surra."
"My name is Mylah Tinsley. You can call me Mylah."
August paused when he heard the name. It was a familiar name.
But he quickly stopped thinking further and put on a smile. "Mylah, word spread. Currently, there are over a dozen companies that want to cooperate with us. I read their files and selected these four. Have a look."
Mylah casually flipped the paper.
The first one was Lyle's Tinus Group.
Her eyes turned cold.
Yet Mylah then smiled and asked August, "Any recommendations?"
"Um, I'll say Tinus Group. I've read their project plan, which is good enough. Also, they have already secured the oversea market. We will have nothing to worry about."
"Then Tinus Group it be." Mylah handed the files back to August. "Would you please set me up with the person in charge of Tinus Group?"
"Leave it to me." August quite liked Mylah, for she was not an arrogant lady as he expected. "Mylah, I believe you need some rest to deal with jet lag. We prepared an apartment for you. Have a rest, and we will start to work in two days."
"Thank you."
Late at night,
Mylah checked the memes sent by her children in a cab.
A warm smile lit up her face.
Seven years ago, she risked her life to give birth to two babies. Now, the babies were her biggest impetuses.
Lyle's face flashed in her mind.
Mylah decided that she would completely move on after everything was done in Kentoville. A peaceful life was waiting for her and her two babies.
"Miss?" The cab driver reminded.
"Thank you."
Mylah got out of the car and went to where Ryker told her to.
She pushed open the box door and saw a room of men. Mylah mentally laughed.
And in the hallway, Lyle stopped his pace. He stared at the woman who walked into a box.
'Mylah Tinsley?
Is that Mylah Tinsley?' He wondered.
Inside the box,
Mylah, in a black gown, caught everyone's eye. There were all kinds of men in the box, and they had one thing in common.
Luxury suit and watch.
Mylah quickly understood that when Ryker hooked her up with others, he didn't select. Instead, he just invited every rich one.
The men were obviously intrigued.
They all looked like beasts staring at the prey.
"Ms. Tinsley, you're alive. But your death was so real seven years ago."
"Stupid media. Ms. Tinsley went abroad to study, but they cursed her to be dead. Ugh, I'm so sick of those reporters."
"Right. And, Ms. Tinsley, I didn't know you could be prettier."
"Lyle Gatlin must be blind. He can't see your beauty."
"But if he could, we wouldn't be here with Ms. Tinsley. Haha."
Somehow, the conversation turned filthy and flirtatious.
Chapter 6 Lucky Dog
If it was possible, Mylah would be raped by their eyes.
Yet she just said with a smile, "Maybe, but what made you think you are allowed to covet my beauty?"
The air in the box froze.
Mylah toyed with a wine glass, and her eyes swept around those men. "Not even Lyle Gatlin is good enough for me. And you think you can get me? What did Ryker tell you? Obviously, my father is very good at encouraging losers."
Some men in the box turned pale, and some turned green.
They didn't expect Mylah would mock them.
Thwack.
A man slammed on the table and roared, "Who do you think you are? Just a used toy. Stop acting like you was a decent lady."
"Went abroad to study? Come on. We're here because you're hot, not because of your so-called smartness."
The man next to Mylah put his hand on her shoulder and put on a disgusting smile, "You heard us. You are but a used toy. Now, we really need you to use your smart brain and understand the word. Don't act like a brat. You know why your father is dying to marry you to a new man. You are a lucky dog to have us here."
His speech made the whole box laugh.
"Lucky dog? Hah, you do look like a dog." Mylah threw wine in the man's face.
"Fuck. I'll make you pay for this." The man grabbed Mylah's arm.
At that moment, someone pushed the box door open.
Lyle stared at the woman who lived in his mind.
"M-Mr. Gatlin..."
Everyone in the box held their breath.
They wondered why Lyle was there.
The gloomy Lyle walked to Mylah and gazed at the man who grabbed Mylah's arm. The man quickly let go.
Mylah was not surprised. Instead, she mellowly smiled like meeting an old friend.
"Long time no see, Mr. Gatlin."
Lyle took a deep breath and forced himself to accept the fact that Mylah was alive.
When he was outside the box, something inside him urged him to find out. He made a call and got to know that a Tinsley girl was having a blind date there.
Lyle thought it was Abril Tinsley, but the waiter said it was Mylah.
He didn't believe it and walked into the box. Then, he saw Mylah dating a room of men.
He was boiling.
"You really can't live without a man, huh? Or do you actually want them all?" He squinted at her.
Mylah had an appealing flirty smile and replied, "Yeah, my father said I was old enough, so he invited all those bastards here for me."
She then pouted. "And these bastards were talking shit about you in front of me. I tried to defend you, but they were about to punch me. Mr. Gatlin, I was doing it for you. You have to be on my side."
"Really?"
The toneless word frightened the men in the box.
Someone refuted, "Don't listen to this bitch, Mr. Gatlin. Why would we talk shit about you? She's totally a whore. She's..."
"You think I'll choose to believe a bunch of strangers rather than my ex-wife?" Lyle asked, dark.
